Universal Pre-K (UPK)

In 2022, HB22-1295 established the Colorado Universal Preschool Program to offer voluntary, high-quality universal preschool to every Colorado child in the year before kindergarten. The Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC) is charged with operating the program. By now, enrolled families should have been matched with a Universal Preshool Provider for the 2024-2025 school year. Here are a few useful links to the Colorado UPK program.

Summer Camp

The ilo Early Learning Center is one of the few facilities in the surrounding Parker community that offer summer camp for 3-5 year olds. Along with our ultra flexible scheduling and our loving and creative team, we're a popular choice for many families that want to enjoy summer-family time as well as allowing their children to engage in fun & stimulating social activities with other kids their age. For kids that have not yet attended school, summer camp can also be a way to introduce kids to a structured school environment.

Summer 2024 camp was a huge success! There were seven-weeks of themed activities including Dinosaur Week, Paw Patrol Week, and Super Hero Week. With the super hot summer days we've had, "splash days" were enormously popular with the kids. Thanks for all the ilo Staff that helped make this a summer to remember. Visit this page again for information on our 2025 Summer Camp programs.

Preschool Readiness

Wondering if your little one is ready for preschool? Every child grows and learns at their own pace, so there's no one-size-fits-all checklist. When your child is ready, their preschool experience can be much more enriching and enjoyable.

As a guide to see if your child is ready, use the following PIECES assessment.

P

Potty Trained

Your child should be able to let the staff know when they need to go and to be able to go by themselves. Of course, it's perfectly normal for kids to occasionally need a hand with tricky clothing, and we're more than happy to help with that.

I

Independent

Some good indicators of an appropriate level of independence is having the ability to play alone or with a few classmates without active guidance or require constant attention from a teacher. They should also have the ability to eat their snacks and lunch without assistance.

E

Expressive

Your child should be able to express their feelings and needs to others through a combination of words and gestures. Being able to connect  socially as well as use language to explain ideas and share thinking with others is key to successful learning in all areas.

C

Concentration

Your child should be able to focus on a 10-15 minute activity, such as teacher-directed lesson, individual play, or a listening to a short story being read by the teacher. They should also be able to understand and perform simple directions from the teacher.

E

Emotional

Your child should be able to separate from you and say "goodbye" at drop-off without a lot of anxiety. They should also be able to appropriately engage with teachers and and peers throughout the day. Excessive anxiety, sometimes expressed through continuous crying, can be traumatic for your child.

S

Stamina

Its tough work being a kid. All the social, emotional, and physical energy spent can be tiring. If your child requires a long morning nap to maintain a consistent level of energy and mood, they may have a hard time adapting to the school  environment, following a schedule, and interacting with others.
